It is essential that we learn from our mistakes and endeavour to keep things in perspective if we fail. We need to understand that we all make errors and that is perfectly normal. Practice can help reduce those mistakes and observed practice can be essential as we can become blind to seeing our own errors.
We sometimes need another pair of eyes to identify our mistakes and although we do get this from the DVSA in the form of a Standards Check, it is only one lesson every 3-5 years and we are performing under pressure. Inviting another person with knowledge and expertise to examine our own training can help us avoid getting so focused on one thing we miss the bleeding obvious. Nobody likes to get things wrong but if or when you do, be nice to yourself everyone will make mistakes. You can however help to protect yourself from making unconscious mistakes when it matters most. With that in mind, we can all benefit from having a trusted trainer/guide/coach/mentor. You may well already be in touch with one or more of our Tri-Coaching Trainers. They are expert in the field of CPD. They can watch you in action and be an honest, reliable source of feedback. The trainers at Tri-Coaching Partnership have all undergone an extensive CPD program and are all practicing ADIs. They are not only really nice people, they have all 'walked the walk' too. Just know that you do not have to be alone. If you don't already have a trainer and you are interested in finding one you can trust to guide you with your own personal development, then please contact us at Tri-Coaching Partnership. We can put you in contact with one of our trainers for a chat that just maybe be the best conversation that you will have as a driving instructor. The Standards Check comes round once every four years but your professional development is ongoing. Our best advice is, don't do it alone, get some help and advice and let someone who can help you with your training. Too many gamble by just waiting until the SC examiner makes their decision and that may or may not be the judgement you want to hear.
