10. The GDE and Driving under Pressure
This webinar looks at how driving under pressure affects our ability to make safe decisions. Harry is tasked with completing three manoeuvres to 'test standard' in an hour. He has to devise his own route and has to allow himself enough time to repeat a manoeuvre if he doesn't think it is up to the required standard. Harry quickly finds that his driving deteriorates as the pressure of the task increases. Through reflection he understands what coping strategies he could use when he is driving post-test and feels similar pressure. |

11. The GDE and Scaling Fear
This webinar looks at how scaling can be used effectively to help objectify and rationalise emotions. Jack has a great fear of driving on dual carriageways. By scaling his fear and then comparing this to a feeling of calmness we are able to work on building his confidence to drive on dual carriageways, without ever having to focus on skills, levels of instruction or faults. The result is that Jack develops a self-evaluation tool to scale his fear and manage his emotions. He learns to drive on dual carriageways and enjoys the experience. |

12. The GDE and Managing Anger
This webinar looks at the importance of managing emotions in order to make safe driving decisions. Ryan has an issue with anger and when he flares up he finds it really difficult to be rational and therefore is at risk of being involved in a crash. We discuss how his anger feels and develop strategies that he can apply to manage it. Ryan comes up with techniques to 'squash' his anger down - something he hadn't previously realised he had control over. If I had just focused on skills' development Ryan would have passed his test no problem but he wouldn't have learned techniques to control his anger and could have been at risk of being involved in a crash. |
